Welcome, and thank you for taking the initiative to learn more about partnering with Capson. Capson was founded because we identified the many challenges facing the healthcare industry, and we wanted to make sure that medical malpractice insurance is not one of them. As you browse through our website, you will see that Capson is focused on protecting and preserving the practices of independent physicians. We believe in treating physicians fairly, and that begins with transparency; Capson offers you the best rates you qualify for – up front, and we have paired these savings with the extraordinary level of service you deserve.
You will see how Capson is transforming the industry by offering services, such as our PatientImpact program, that prevent litigation from occurring in the first place. Our Early Claims Resolution Program has proven that it resolves litigation faster and more cost effectively compared to the industry. Finally, our proprietary online platform, QuickClick Technology, allows us to deliver all of this value at a more than competitive rate. In addition to what our product offers, the expertise and passion that our team brings to the medical malpractice industry is readily apparent in all that we do.
Capson is more than a medical malpractice insurance carrier; we’re a partner. And if you are looking for a partner that is aware of the current threats to you and your practice, you have come to the right place. We are excited to have the opportunity to share what Capson is about, and I hope you choose to become part of the Capson community.
President & Founder
To be the forward thinking company that transforms the medical malpractice industry.
To provide all stakeholders with an extraordinary experience at the lowest possible cost.
Changing the medical malpractice industry requires the collaborative effort of individuals with deep industry experience and a real passion towards making a difference. Capson has assembled a team like none in the industry: insurance and healthcare executives, healthcare attorneys, and healthcare providers, all dedicated to helping physicians protect their reputations and medical practices.
Maury has a distinguished and proven track record as a leader in the medical malpractice industry. In 2010, Maury launched Capson Physicians Insurance Company with a vision to transform the medical malpractice industry. Under his leadership, Capson has done just that. Prior to Capson, he served as President of American Physicians Insurance Company, a Texas-based medical malpractice insurance company. Maury’s industry expertise, leadership skills, and innovative thinking foster Capson’s growth and support the healthcare community as a whole. He brings a tremendous amount of passion towards making a difference in the lives of America’s much-needed independent physicians and their practices around the country.
Tom also has extensive industry experience. For 10 years, he was CEO of Texas Medical Liability Trust, the largest writer of medical malpractice insurance in Texas, with surplus in excess of $260 million. Prior to his tenure as CEO, Tom also served in the capacity of Chief Financial Officer for 12 years. During his time with TMLT, he was instrumental in the creation of the Texas Alliance for Patient Access, the group that was largely responsible for the Texas tort reform victory in 2003. As CFO, Tom leverages his strong operational and financial skills and is driven by his recognition of the change needed in the industry.
Sandra joined Capson in 2011, bringing medical professional liability underwriting expertise and strong relationship management skills to the team. Sandra was most recently with American Physicians Insurance Company, where she focused on Underwriting and management of physician group accounts and agent relations for over eight years. Prior to Underwriting, she was in Business Development, where her focus was on premium growth and agency relationship management. Sandra has her Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) designation, which has served to broaden her knowledge of professional liability insurance.
As Capson’s new Director of Claims, Laura brings with her several years in private practice at a commercial litigation firm where her practice areas included complex business disputes, insurance coverage and defense, and consumer protection law. Laura also spent more than twelve years in professional liability claims and litigation management where she aggressively advocated on behalf of her clients and their physician and non-physician providers. In addition to handling her own national docket, Laura managed a team of claims attorneys responsible for managing the professional liability claims of a publicly traded physician staffing company. Laura is a graduate of Southwestern University (B.A.) and South Texas College of Law (J.D.).
