A Message From Our Founder

I founded Capson Physicians Insurance Company with over 15 years of medical malpractice experience, after serving as President of American Physicians Insurance Company. Our CFO, Tom Cotten, brings over 20 years of medical malpractice experience, formerly as CEO of Texas Medical Liability Trust, the largest malpractice carrier in Texas.

During this period, we represented over 20,000 physicians – and we saw meaningful legislation in many states lower premiums and stimulate competition. But we didn’t see medical malpractice carriers thinking differently about how they operate, and about the fundamental coverage they provide to address the current challenges and risks associated with your practice.

We still haven’t seen carriers embrace technology, streamline operations, or reduce costs to lower your premium. We haven’t seen any real change in underwriting, from the antiquated 15-page application to the manual, two-week underwriting process and the inconsistency of evaluating risk. Most importantly, while the industry continues to tout superior claims handling services, it ignores the obvious: partnering with physicians to help enhance the patient’s experience, which ultimately helps reduce and prevent non-meritorious lawsuits from being filed.
